by K Das2026 — Sri Aurobindo's integral education, rooted in Vedantic thought, emphasises spiritual evolution through yogic self-regulation.

The study observes the rising global demand for educational reform and suggests possible alternative adjustments through the philosophies of Sri Aurobindo and Henry Thoreau, two seminal thinkers from the Indian and American Renaissances. Although they belong to different cultural and philosophical roots, both critiqued the colonial and conventional education system’s conformity, passivity, rote learning, and punitive discipline. Sri Aurobindo’s integral education, rooted in Vedantic thought, emphasises spiritual evolution through yogic self-regulation. Henry Thoreau’s nature-based pedagogy, rooted in transcendental philosophy, promotes self-reliance, experiential learning, and moral suasion. Both of them responded to the inadequacies of colonial, industry-driven, and skill-based education by envisioning evolutionary alternatives concentrating on holistic human growth.

Through a comparative analysis across four dimensions: critical assessment of the contemporary education systems, philosophical foundations and pedagogical methodology, the educator’s role, comparative perspectives on epistemic in/justice and moral education, the study highlights their shared rejection of rigid, authoritarian pedagogy. The paper argues that their legacies offer possible insights for reimagining contemporary education that parallels the decolonial turn of epistemology. Further, the paper briefly discusses how their educational philosophies foster critical learning and thinking, and also critically considers the limitations of their philosophy.

The reason I believe Subhas Chandra Bose was, in essence, Odia and not a Bengali is that his upbringing instilled in him Odia values- the same set of values that guided him throughout his life.

"Affirmative action i.e. reservation is a form of legalized racism. It’s the ultimate form of discrimination to assume that one is disadvantaged just because he’s black,Hispanic or Native American" - As stated By an Indian American who pretended to be black to get admission but dropped out.

Later, Supreme Court in US struck down affirmative action programs at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina. The court ruled that the institutions violated the Fourteenth Amendment and federal civil rights law.

The court’s decision ended the practice of overt racial consideration in higher education admissions. Colleges can no longer consider race as a factor in the admissions process in an attempt to ensure there is a diverse student body. The same principle should apply in India. #EndReservation

Law-abiding, income tax-paying and peace-loving middle class citizens form one of the most unfortunate subsets in our country because the lawless, the unruly and the anarchists always get away with anything and everything.

Unlike “progressive” Americans who embrace race, the caste reformer B.R. Ambedkar envisioned a world where race/caste distinctions were annihilated – and specifically by mixing, by intermarriage. The view of racial purity shared by the mainstream American left and right – where Barack Obama’s white ancestry counts for nothing – makes that annihilation more difficult. But not everyone in the Americas – or even in the United States – shares that view.
